Stand With Ukraine’ Brunch Fundraiser, Supporting Capital Region Ukrainian Communities and Their Families Abroad

Local Restaurant to Host ‘Stand With Ukraine’ Brunch Fundraiser, Supporting Capital Region Ukrainian Communities and Their Families Abroad.

Nanola restaurant, a bar and music venue in Malta, NY, will be hosting a brunch fundraiser and community awareness event for Ukraine. The event, “Stand With Ukraine,” will take place on Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 12:00pm-3:00pm. The goal of the event is to demonstrate support for Ukraine and its citizens (local and abroad), in addition to directly assisting a Ukrainian member of their Nanola family.

Elvira Horbata, a well-known server and bartender at Nanola, immigrated to the United States from Kherson in 2007. She is currently a student at SUNY Albany, pursuing a degree in psychology and neuroscience. Shane Spillenger, the owner of Nanola, explains, “Elvira brings a unique style and energy to the restaurant and continually goes above and beyond. She is intelligent and compassionate, and there is nothing she wouldn’t do for someone. Now, it is our turn to step up and support her in the way that she does for everyone else.” Currently, Elvira’s hometown of Oleshky has been invaded. Her family has been displaced and are seeking shelter, with limited access to resources.

The “Stand With Ukraine” brunch event will include food and drink options (including traditional foods), live music, a flower crown station, and raffles. Twenty five percent of the day’s sales will be donated directly to Elvira’s family. In addition, Nanola will continue to provide donations for the duration of this war. A GoFundMe page has also been created and can be accessed at the following link: https://gofund.me/e1d00c0a. Lastly, 518 Donuts and Pristine Vodka will be partnering on the event. Reservations are recommended for food service. For additional information, contact Shane Spillenger.

About Nanola Restaurant; Nanola is a fun, casual, environment with New Orleans influences. It is located in Malta, NY. The venue features a bar that boasts an extensive beer list and dining menu (with southern and creole inspiration). Nanola regularly hosts live music, trivia, and private events.
