About Suzanne Vega

Widely regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk revival of the early 1980s. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, Vega sang what has been called contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known venues. Known for performances that convey deep emotion, Vega’s distinctive, “clear, unwavering voice” (Rolling Stone) has been described as “a cool, dry sandpaper-brushed near-whisper” by The Washington Post, with NPR Music noting that she “has been making vital, inventive music” throughout the course of her decades-long career.

Bearing the stamp of a masterful storyteller who “observes the world with a clinically poetic eye” (The New York Times), Vega’s songs have tended to focus on city life, ordinary people and real-world subjects. Notably succinct and understated, her work is immediately recognizable—as utterly distinct and thoughtful as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 30 years ago.

Rubblebucket Night 2

Rubblebucket’s seeds were sown when Kalmia Traver and Alex Toth, the group’s front persons, co-writers and co-producers, first began a friendship as jazz students at the University of Vermont. Soon after, they formed Rubblebucket, using the project to delve into pop, funk, dance and psychedelia; performances have spanned Bonnaroo to Glastonbury to their self-curated Dream Picnic Festival, and they’ve collaborated with kindred genre-blenders including Arcade Fire and Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. Their latest full-length LP ‘Year of the Banana’ is perhaps their deepest and grooviest work yet. It speaks to the power of transforming and adapting relationships in a time when the world needs it most.

Year Of The Banana is the stalwart indie band Rubblebucket’s 7th full-length recording. Frontperson Kalmia Traver says “People get obsessed with the albums that were never finished because the band couldn’t stay together. But Year Of The Banana is the album that did get finished” –– evidently against all odds and only with the support of “mediators, hypnotherapists, psycho-therapists, life coaches, business coaches, recovery groups, guided hallucinogens.”

Slambovian Circus Of Dreams

THE SLAMBOVIAN CIRCUS OF DREAMS

Explore the depths of Americana “one trippy tune at a time” with New York’s Slambovian

Circus of Dreams.

Voted “Best Band” by NY’s Chronogram Magazine for their rootsy, rockin’ psychedelia,

the Slambovians’ deep connection with audiences and exciting live shows are legendary.

This Woodstock-tinged Americana has a hint of southern rock, British folk combined with

solid songwriting – a slice of Americana pie that is irresistible! Dylan, Bowie, Syd Barrett,

Tom Petty, and The Waterboys can be heard, yet the Slambovians’ musicianship and

critically acclaimed songwriting stand on their own. Joziah (the resident shaman of

Slambovia), leads with vocals described as “soothing and bewitching as a snake oil

tonic.” Longtime bandmates Tink Lloyd (accordion, cello, mandolin, flute)

and guitarist/mandolin wizard Sharkey McEwen bring their own magic to the Slambovian

brew with “a little help from their friends” – RJ McCarty (keys, bass, sax), Bob Torsello

(bass), and Matthew Abourezk (drums).

“They take the stage by storm!” – NY Times

“Longo, a god of the rock underworld!” – John Platt, WFUV Radio “Great songs and a

whole lotta heart” – Meg Griffin, SiriusXM “Simply one of the finest American bands” – All

Music “The cool end of Americana” – Maverick Magazine, UK

“Longo is an awesome songwriter” – Garth Hudson, The Band “The best band since the

Beatles” – Jim Pons, bassist: Frank Zappa, John Lennon

The Big Takeover

Traditionalists or progressives? Fronted by the charismatic Jamaican-born singer and songwriter Nee Nee Rushie, the seven-piece New York band The Big Takeover plays original music that is rooted in and reverent toward the genres and rhythms of Jamaican pop: reggae, rocksteady, ska. They are devotees of Desmond Dekker and the way the old school did it.  At the same time, The Big Takeover crosses lines and blends traditions like global pop fusionists. Their deceptively complex arrangements and big hooks connect with the spirit of Motown and the uptown sophistication of the 21st century retro soul and R&B revival scene.

“Led by the powerhouse, Jamaican-born singer and songwriter NeeNee Rushie, The Big Takeover’s horn-powered global blend reveals deep fluency in reggae and world music, hints of soul and Motown, and their own infectious brand of pop classicism.” — John Burdick

Princess Kikou is a New Hampshire based World Beat group which draws heavily from Afro-Caribbean influences as well as modern Pop and Roots Rock. Made up of a core of musicians: Jon Tshibambi on Bass, Simon Gray on Guitar, John Meehan the fifth on Saxophone, and Garth Tichy on Drums, Princess Kikou also features a rotating ensemble of guest players. Blending together the Indie-Rock origins of a separate project, Blue Motel, and the globe-spanning influences of each of its members, Princess Kikou creates a unique, danceable sound, full of multi-lingual harmonies and syncopated rhythms.
