SASAMI
The Egg Presents: SASAMI
MusicTuesday, May 6 2025 â˘Â 8:00pm â˘$45, $35, $25
Part of the Egg Presents Series
With support from Mood Killer
Two Sasamiâs exist in harmony. First is Sasami Ashworth, the conservatory-trained classical French horn player, producer, and composerâan artist with a studious approach to craft. And then there is all-caps SASAMI, the fearless performer and protagonist of her three increasingly audacious albums. For Blood On the Silver Screen, these two sides fused for her most epic and realized music to date: the all-out Sasami pop record. âThis album is all about learning and respecting the craft of pop songwriting, about relenting to illogical passion, obsession, and guiltless pleasure,â Sasami says. âItâs about leaning into the chaos of romance and sweeping devotionâromanticism to the point of self-destruction.â
After establishing herself with the poised melancholia of her eponymous 2019 debut, Sasami embraced volume and control on 2022âs Squeeze, but her goal on Blood On the Silver Screen was to speak her truth with conviction by singing. Working with producers Jenn Decilveo and Rostam, with Sasami as sole writer, each Blood On the Silver Screen track viscerally captures a different thread of love, sex, power, and embodiment. âPop music is like fuel,â Sasami says. âItâs just invigorating.â
She came to that fact while training to tour Squeezeâshows that required her to run around with her Mockingbird guitar, mosh, leap off ampsâat the gym. Sasami found herself fascinated by the high-octane music that sustains physical activity. âThe gym became this place where I would exercise and be studying the music,â Sasami says. Eschewing todayâs pop zeitgeist, Sasami gravitated towards late aughts and 2010s pop a la Britney Spearsâ Femme Fatale and Lady Gagaâs Born This Way, plus Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Sia. She was influenced by modern country storytelling, mixing vulnerability with humor, and the mood board also included Prince, Japanese city pop, and the stadium-sized, denim-clad iconography of Bruce Springsteen.
âI wanted to go all out with this album,â Sasami sats. âI wanted to, in my tenderness and emotionality, have the bravery to undertake something as epic as making a pop record about love. I hope it makes people feel empowered and embodied, too. Itâs important to not box yourself in.â

Mood Killer

Opening portals to higher realms has long been the meandering path of experimental pop artist Mood Killer (they/them) culminating last year in their debut album âABRACADABRA.â Bursting onto the effervescent LA scene in 2019 with pioneering EP âLiquifyâ, Mood, aka Michael Zarowny, quickly drew in a circle of collaborators and fans across the pop and alt spectrum, crafting a pioneering and unique blend of theatrical electronic pop and mystical panache.
Their EP âSolidifyâ saw collaborations with Slipknotâs SID, The Gardenâs Enjoy and Pussy Riot amongst others whilst Mood has performed with alt-pop greats Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek and Dorian Electra.Â

MusicWednesday, May 7 2025 â˘Â 8:00pm â˘$35, $25

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark self-titled debut album throughout 2025 with a worldwide tour performing the album in its entirety alongside other surprises, and an exclusive new reissue.
A heady blend of leftfield pop and melodic, exuberant indie rock, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah is unquestionably among the finest and most influential independent releases of the 2000s. The celebration officially gets underway with the premiere of Clap Your Hands Say Yeahâs original 2004 version of the fan favorite, âHeavy Metalâ. The newly remixed and mastered track was recently discovered among the original project files and captures what Clap Your Hands Say Yeah founder and frontman Alec Ounsworth calls âa special moment in time â a young group of guys all piling into one hotel room to wake up and go to a real studio (!) to try to come up with something special just for the fun of it.âÂ
In addition to the digital anniversary release featuring the original version of âHeavy Metal,â a special deluxe reissue will arrive on limited edition vinyl LP in early 2025, released on CYHSYâs own label via Secretly Distribution, the defiantly independent home to over two decades of Alec Ounsworthâs music.

Knifeplay is a band that eludes definition, existing somewhere between the nihilistic detachment of shoegaze and the emotional honesty of folk songwriting. Theyâve made a slow and careful shift from being the solo bedroom recording project of songwriter, Tj Strohmer, to a collaborative, production-focused studio-recorded band. Through their ever-expanding genre palette, range of fidelities, and a long list of collaborators runs a unique mood that ties everything together.
Informed by his experiences living in Philadelphia and their contrast with his rural southern Maryland upbringing, Strohmerâs sometimes straightforward, sometimes dreamlike lyrics feature scenes of darkness from many different aspects of life. He deals with themes of death, drugs, heartbreak, abuse, and self-destruction, all expressed through an androgynous vocal style, which, combined with the bandâs lush, often dense orchestral instrumentation gives a beautiful lightness to the heavy subject matter.
Knifeplay has earned a dedicated cult following since their 2017 debut with their home-recorded Eps, acclaimed debut album Pearlty (2019), a lengthy B-Sides Compilation (2020), and an EP Hurt Someone (2021 Born Losers Records). The latter of which was a part of their 2021 studio work with acclaimed Philadelphia engineer/mixer/producer Jeff Zeigler.
Knifeplay is: Tj Strohmer (guitar, vocals, songwriting), Alex Stackhouse (bass), John Scortino (drums), Max Black (keys), John Klein (lead guitar)

Â
Downtown Albany BID Executive Director Georgette Steffens said: âThis yearâs PearlPalooza not only welcomes fan-favorite Rubblebucket back to the stageâbringing their signature blend of funk, psychedelic, and indie rock that perfectly captures the spirit of the festivalâbut also debuts four dynamic DJ sets, highlighting just how much the event has evolved over the years. Weâre incredibly thankful to our sponsors for helping us carry this tradition into its 16th year, and deeply appreciative of our co-organizers, WEQX and Sugar Productions, who helped create this annual event. PearlPalooza is a love letter to Downtownâcelebrating our district not just as the backdrop for this unforgettable event, but as a vibrant destination filled with thriving businesses, historic charm, and scenic beauty. We canât wait to welcome thousands of fans back to the core of the city.â Â
Albany Mechanical Operations Manager Jason Bethon: “Weâre thrilled to return as presenting sponsor of PearlPalooza â an incredible day of music and community in the heart of Albany. Itâs events like this that make us proud to call the Capital Region home. Albany Mechanical is proud to once again support PearlPalooza, a celebration of music, community, and the energy that makes downtown Albany so unique. As a local business serving the Capital Region for over 45 years, we believe in giving back and being part of events that bring people together. Weâre excited for another unforgettable day of live music and local pride!”Â
Common Roots Brewing Co-founder Christian Weber said: “Common Roots Brewing Company is thrilled to extend our support for PearlPalooza 2025 as the official craft beer sponsor! We’re proud to be part of the vibrant Downtown Albany community and can think of no better way to celebrate than by bringing great music and great beer to Pearl Street in September. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!”Â
Mr. Good Vybz CEO Amin Cowan said: âWe are pleased to collaborate with our long-standing partner Curaleaf and the Downtown Business Improvement District to bring this important community event to residents of the city of Albany. As a business whose future is heavily intertwined with Albanyâs downtown, we welcome any opportunity to add our motto â Vibe High. Feel Good. Live Well â to its expanding character.âÂ
WEQX Program Director Jeff Morad said: âEvery year we are stoked to put together the lineup for PearlPalooza and this year all the magic fell into place as we get to see Rubblebucket with their artsy, indie display of musicianship. I wouldnât be surprised if we didnât get some fan-participation moments during their headlining set! Grammy Award winning musician Dave Gutter has been a staple, holding the many chapters of EQX together for the past few decades so we are definitely excited to see him perform â his new album âThe Music Industry Is Trying To Kill Meâ is one of the best albums to come out this year, expect to hear a bunch of music from that in addition to some Rustic Overtones / Paranoid Social Club tunes! The Happy Fits will make the drive up from New Jersey to put on a high energy set. Itâs said that The Happy Fits are never unhappy while performing and that energy spills out into the crowd. Beginning the day of free live music will be the talented local musician, Ky McClinton from Troy, NY. Youâve probably seen Ky perform at Lark Hall, Bellstock or numerous local stages, but never on a big ole stage in the middle of Pearl Street in downtown Albany! Be sure to get there early so you donât miss him â maybe even early enough to participate in YogaPalooza!âÂ
Owner of Sugar Productions Shane Spillenger said: âRubblebucket has been known to put on some of the most fun interactive concerts I have produced. The Ky McClinton Band is one of the most talented in the area and impresses everyone who sees them. This year’s PearlPalooza is one not to miss!”Â
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said: âOnce again, WEQX, Sugar Productions, and the Downtown Albany BID have delivered an incredible PearlPalooza lineup for 2025. This annual tradition has become one of the most anticipated events in our city, bringing high-energy performances and a vibrant atmosphere to the heart of downtown Albany.
